[Framed Art Poster]

Kanagawa Okinamiura is one of the Katsushika Hokusai's famous ukiyoe set "Fugaku Sanjurokkei (Thirty-six views of Mt. Fuji)".

The dramatic composition depicts three boats being tossed by the waves and the ferociously high and violent swirling waves, with a glimpse of Mt. Fuji in the distance through the undulating waves. The water flow, the undulation of the waves, the movement of the boats along the waves, and the gentle ridges of Mt. Fuji are all components of the multiple logarithmic spirals.

There are various theories as to the location of the model. The three boats in the figure are called "Oshibo-bune," which were used to transport marine products from the Boso Peninsula to Edo (present-day Tokyo), so there is a theory that Fuji was viewed from the offshore area of Kisarazu, which is on the opposite shore of Kanagawa in Tokyo Bay.
