[Framed Art Poster]

"Akafuji" is said to be one of Hokusai Katsushika's masterpieces from his "Fugaku Sanjurokkei (Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji)" series, depicting a late-summer scene with a "triumphant" (or southern) wind blowing. Fuji, with its reddish surface, is so impressive that this work is so familiar to many people that it can be said to be the most famous Ukiyoe depiction of Mt. Fuji.

This art is also called “Static Akafuji" in Japanese. The clear sky with scaly clouds floating in the sky is impressive with its vivid and deep indigo hues. Rising high against such a sky, the majestic reddish surface of mountain. The gradation of black, red, and green is applied from the top to the foot of the mountain, and the numerous dots representing the dense forest at the foot of the mountain are eye-catching.

The simple color scheme of this work, which is composed entirely of only four colors, is the ultimate in beauty of omission among the many Ukiyoe works. The elimination of all waste in "Akafuji" conveys the constancy and grandeur of the stately Mount Fuji. It is truly a "Static Fuji.
